Daniel Kaluuya makes directorial debut

Netflix has unveiled a sneak peek of Daniel Kaluuya’s directorial debut, “The Kitchen,” with an image that teases the London-based dystopian drama, Digital Spy reports.

Closing the 67th BFI London Film Festival, the film showcases Kaluuya’s first foray into directing alongside co-director Kibwe Tavares. Ahead of its festival premiere, the streaming giant released a still featuring Kane Robinson of Top Boy fame, and newcomer Jedaiah Bannerman in their roles. Robinson, portraying Izi, is clad in black on a motorcycle, while Bannerman’s Benji stands in a grey hoodie. They stand against a rundown building, assumed to be “The Kitchen”, a defiant community featured in the film.

Co-written by Kaluuya and Joe Murtagh, the film follows Izi’s journey as he navigates leaving a life of crime while caring for his sick son.

The anticipation mounts for both the film’s debut and Robinson’s return in Top Boy. Set to close the BFI London Film Festival on October 15, “The Kitchen” will hit Netflix screens later this year.
