Dakota Johnson has said the most painful part of filmmaking is the moment a shoot wraps, regardless of how the finished film turns out, describing it as a heartbreak she has felt many times, per faroutmagazine.co.uk.
“I’ve felt that sort of heartbreak I don’t even know how many times now in my life,” Johnson told Vogue.
She compared the experience to “leaving summer camp,” adding: “It’s so devastating. And I don’t know how much more heartbreak my heart can handle.”
The comments are notable given the mixed critical reception to parts of her filmography. Johnson has won Golden Raspberry Awards for her work, including two for Fifty Shades of Grey, in the categories of Worst Actress and Worst Screen Combo, and another for Madame Web.
Her recent projects include an adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s Verity, as well as Materialists and Netflix’s version of Jane Austen’s Persuasion.
Johnson has also been praised for work with respected directors, appearing in Luca Guadagnino’s A Bigger Splash and Suspiria and Maggie Gyllenhaal’s The Lost Daughter.
Johnson comes from a Hollywood family. She is the daughter of Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson, granddaughter of Tippi Hedren and stepdaughter of Antonio Banderas. After a small role in her mother’s 1999 film Crazy in Alabama, she made her proper screen debut in The Social Network in 2010. Her breakthrough came in 2015 as the lead in Fifty Shades of Grey, adapted from the EL James novel, which spawned two sequels despite poor reviews.
