Tanzanian artist Chino Kidd has released his latest single, “Fashion,” which centres on themes of admiration and self-assurance, anchored by the recurring hook “her body is fashion.”
Born Isaya Michael Mtambo, Chino Kidd began his career as a behind-the-scenes collaborator, working alongside established Tanzanian acts Rich Mavoko and Marioo before launching his solo career in 2022 with “Sina Msosi”. He has since developed a reputation as one of East Africa’s more distinctive performers, drawing on Afro-pop, dance and Afro-fusion influences.
“Fashion” features contributions from S2Kizzy, Silas Africa, Tebogo G Mashego and Joblaq, whose varied perspectives, spanning romantic pursuit to broader lifestyle themes, give the song a collaborative texture.
“We wanted the feeling to match what you see when someone walks into a room and changes everything without trying,” Chino Kidd said.
The single continues a run of releases in which Chino Kidd has foregrounded performance and choreography as central to his artistic identity, with his Swahili-language delivery a consistent feature of his sound.
