The 2026 Grammy Awards delivered a night of high fashion, emotional tributes and unexpected blunders with last year’s Best New Artist, Chappell Roan, making waves on the red carpet in a sheer, hooded Mugler gown that appeared to be held up by nipple rings.
According to consequence.net, while responding to the online stir on Instagram, Roan remained unfazed: “I don’t even think this is THAT outrageous… the look’s actually so awesome and weird.”

While she missed out on wins for her single “The Subway,” she took the stage to present the Best New Artist trophy to Olivia Dean.
The gown, cosmopolitan.com reports, was inspired by a runway look from the 1998 “Jeu de Paume” collection, and consisted of sheer burgundy fabric held up by faux nipple piercings, plus a removable cloak.
Chappell also wore elaborate tattoos on her back, and matched her hair to the colour of the dress. The dress obviously generated a lot of chatter, and Chappell just chimed into the convo, writing on Instagram “Giggling because I don’t even think this is THAT outrageous of an outfit.
