Cave Canem and Black Lawrence Press have announced a multi-year partnership to jointly administer the Derricotte/Eady Chapbook Prize, which recognises chapbook-length manuscripts by Black poets across the diaspora.
The prize is named after Cave Canem co-founders Toi Derricotte and Cornelius Eady. Under the new arrangement, submissions for both the 2027 and 2028 editions will run concurrently, closing on August 7 at 11:59pm ET, to establish a fresh timeline for the prize and its publication schedule.
Poet Tommye Blount will judge the 2027 prize, while Jonterri Gadson will judge the 2028 edition.
Winners of both editions will receive a $1,000 prize, publication of their manuscript through Black Lawrence Press, 10 copies of their chapbook, a residency at The Writer’s Room at The Betsy Hotel in South Beach, and a reading during the O, Miami Festival.
Further details on the submission process are available via cavecanempoets.org/programs/#prizes.
