Ariana Grande will take an extended break from public life after completing her current concert tour, her representative confirmed on August 3, per nbcnews.com.
Following the announcement, producers confirmed the Grammy-winning singer and actor has withdrawn from her planned star turn in the London theatre revival of Stephen Sondheim’s Sunday in the Park With George.
Grande, 33, is set to conclude her Eternal Sunshine Tour at London’s O2 Arena on September 1. Her representative stated that she intends to step back from visibility to protect her health and happiness after experiencing “endless, ongoing public scrutiny.”
As a direct result of her decision, Empire Street Productions confirmed Grande will no longer play the dual roles of Dot and Marie in Sunday in the Park With George, which opens at the Barbican Centre in summer 2027. She was slated to star opposite her Wicked co-star Jonathan Bailey. Production company bosses expressed full support for her decision, confirming the show will proceed with recasting announced in due course.
The decision follows heightened public commentary surrounding Grande’s appearance, health and recent artistic work. Discourse intensified following the release of the music video for “Petal,” the title track of her eighth studio album, released on July 31, which features themes of industry pressure and criticism. Grande previously condemned public commentary on individuals’ bodies as dangerous and inappropriate.
Grande will next appear on screen in Universal Pictures’ comedy Focker-in-Law, scheduled for release on November 25.
