Beck has released a new single, “Disappearing Act,” the third preview of his forthcoming 15th studio album, “Ride Lonesome,” due September 18 via Capitol, per nme.com.
The ethereal, acoustic-led track was produced by Beck himself, with mixing handled by longtime Radiohead collaborator Nigel Godrich. It follows the previously released title track and single “In The Night.”
“Ride Lonesome” is Beck’s first full album since 2019’s Hyperspace, following this year’s covers and rarities collection Everybody’s Gotta Learn Sometime. For the new record, Beck reunited with musicians from his Sea Change, Morning Phase and Mutations-era band; Smokey Hormel, Joey Waronker, Justin Meldal-Johnsen, Roger Joseph Manning Jr. and Jason Falkner, recording at Room B at United Studios in Hollywood.
Beck said it had been a decade since the group last recorded together for Morning Phase, adding that the chemistry had “evolved and deepened” over the years, with the sessions yielding “new sounds and emotional textures” alongside familiar musical territory.
The 12-track album comprises “Ride Lonesome,” “Run Away,” “In The Night,” “Failed Words,” “Bleed,” “Disappearing Act,” “For Your Love,” “Slow Canyon,” “It Ends Right Here,” “Falling Through My Hands,” “If You Don’t Know What Love Is” and “Beyond The Light.”
Beck’s North American tour begins September 16 in Vancouver. Since Hyperspace, he has also played two orchestral shows at London’s Royal Albert Hall, hinted at a future orchestral record, and covered Jeff Buckley’s “Lilac Wine” with Arooj Aftab for the War Child charity compilation Help(2).
