Sony’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day has crossed $2 billion in worldwide ticket sales after just three weekends in cinemas, making it only the eighth film in history to reach the milestone, variety.com.
The film, starring Tom Holland as Peter Parker, has taken $785 million in North America and $1.23 billion internationally, for a global total of $2.022 billion.
The film joins a select group of $2 billion-grossing titles that includes Avatar (2009), Avengers: Endgame (2019), Avatar: The Way of Water (2022), Titanic (1994), Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015) and Avengers: Infinity War (2018). It is the second-fastest to reach the threshold, behind only Endgame, which took 11 days.
The previous instalment, 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, came close with $1.9 billion but fell short partly because it did not release in China.
Brand New Day, Holland’s fourth solo outing as the web-slinger, opened at the end of July with a record North American debut of $355 million and a global opening weekend of $932 million. It passed $1 billion in worldwide takings within six days of release and is already the eighth-highest-grossing film ever globally.
Industry analysts are now watching whether the film could become the first to earn $1 billion domestically, a mark currently held by Star Wars: The Force Awakens at $936 million, and potentially the first to reach $3 billion worldwide.
