CORA marks Femi Osofisan’s 80th birthday with Literary Season 3.0

The Committee for Relevant Art (CORA) is holding Literary Season 3.0 in Lagos on Saturday, July 4, marking playwright Femi Osofisan’s 80th birthday under the theme “Old Light in New Vessel.”

The event comprises a panel session and a conference examining his work and its place in contemporary Nigerian theatre.

The panel session, running from 12pm to 2pm, will focus on Osofisan’s new book, Literature and the Pressures of Freedom, a collection of essays, speeches and songs published under Ifa Readers. It will be followed by a conference from 3pm to 4:30pm titled “African Theatre: Reflections on Theatre Practice in Contemporary Nigeria.”

Osofisan is a veteran Nigerian playwright, poet and essayist whose decades-long career has shaped African theatre and literary criticism. CORA, founded in 1991, is a cultural advocacy organisation that received the Prince Claus Award for Excellence in Culture Development in 2008.

The event forms part of CORA’s ongoing Literary Season series, now in its third edition, which brings together writers, critics and audiences to engage with African literature and theatre.

Although the event is set to take place at the CORA Library & Resource Centre, 1 Hospital Road, Freedom Park, Lagos Island, attendees can also join virtually via Google Meet Video call link: https://meet.google.com/ojf-spdg-asg
