BEEKAY releases new album ‘Love Like Mr. Bassey’

BEEKAY has released his new album, “Love Like Mr. Bassey,” a 10-track project charting the arc of a romantic relationship from its early promise through heartbreak to healing.

The project traces the journey of two young lovers, following what the Afrosoul artist describes as a familiar boy-meets-girl arc through the challenges that inevitably follow.

He said the album draws on his own experience of both love and heartbreak. “I’ve been in love for real and also had my heart broken,” he said, adding that both the joyful and painful parts of the experience shaped who he is today.

Among the 10 tracks is “Another Man,” a fan favourite that addresses the realisation of a one-sided relationship, in which one partner builds a future around someone whose plans never included them. Other songs include “Ufan,” featuring J’Dess, which incorporates soulful tributes to his Ibibio heritage, and “Mellow,” featuring Dotti the Deity, described as a more settled, peaceful record.

The album is rooted in BEEKAY’s signature Afrosoul sound and is produced primarily by Johnson Clinton Gift, with additional production from Andy Amadi and Archibong Victory Kokoete.

BEEKAY began his career in Port Harcourt, where he gained early recognition through his “Beekay Live” concert series. He relocated to Lagos in 2016 and has since built a dual career as a recording artist and live music curator.

“Love Like Mr. Bassey” is available now via ONErpm on all major streaming platforms.
