Gracie Abrams discusses surprise transition to acting in Halina Reijn film

American singer-songwriter Gracie Abrams has admitted she never envisioned pursuing an acting career ahead of her upcoming feature film debut, writes film-news.co.uk.

The 26-year-old musician is set to play the lead role in “Please,” the next project from acclaimed Dutch director Halina Reijn, known for Bodies Bodies Bodies and Babygirl.

Speaking to Vogue magazine, Abrams revealed that while she had not planned to transition into acting, she felt compelled to take the role after reading the script. The project originated from a breakfast meeting three years ago when Reijn was initially scouting songwriters for her 2024 film Babygirl. Reijn stated that she immediately thought of Abrams for the lead role whilst writing Please, citing the musician’s relatability during auditions.

Plot details for the romantic feature remain undisclosed, though Reijn described the narrative as provocative and relatable for women. To prepare for production, Abrams has been reading plays and composing music inspired by her character’s development.

The film’s cast also features British actors Tom Burke and David Jonsson, alongside Heated Rivalry star Connor Storrie. Although “Please” marks her first professional acting role, Abrams has extensive ties to the film industry as the daughter of director J.J. Abrams and producer Katie McGrath.
