2025 Hugo Award winners revealed

Science fiction’s brightest stars were celebrated Saturday evening at the 83rd World Science Fiction Convention, Seattle Worldcon 2025, where the winners of the 2025 Hugo Awards, Lodestar Award, and Astounding Award were announced, per sffworld.com. The formal ceremony honoured outstanding achievements in the genre across various categories, from novels and dramatic presentations to new writers and artists.

The highly anticipated Best Novel award was won by Adrian Tchaikovsky for his work, Alien Clay, a gripping tale published by Orbit US and Tor UK. Tchaikovsky also had another novel, Service Model, on the ballot, showcasing his prolific year.

In the Best Novella category, Aliette de Bodard’s Navigational Entanglements (Tordotcom) claimed the top prize. Other notable winners included Naomi Kritzer for Best Novelette with “The Four Sisters Overlooking the Sea” (Asimov’s), and Nghi Vo, who won Best Short Story for “Stitched to Skin Like Family Is” (Uncanny Magazine).

The awards also recognised excellence in other media. Best Graphic Story or Comic went to Marjorie Liu and Sana Takeda for Monstress, Vol. 9: The Possessed, published by Image. In dramatic presentations, Denis Villeneuve’s cinematic masterpiece, Dune: Part Two, secured the Best Dramatic Presentation, Long Form award, while the Best Dramatic Presentation, Short Form was awarded to the Fallout episode “The Beginning” from Amazon Prime Video.

New talent was also celebrated. Angela Liu took home the Astounding Award for Best New Writer. The Lodestar Award for Best Young Adult Book was won by Jordan Ifueko for The Maid and the Crocodile.

The awards, voted on by members of the World Science Fiction Convention, represent the pinnacle of achievement in the genre, and this year’s winners continue a legacy of honoring the most imaginative and impactful works in science fiction and fantasy.
