Bridget Blue has delivered a poignant Afro-R&B meditation on love with her latest single, “Mbuzi.” The track, sung entirely in Swahili, subverts material expectations in relationships, using the traditional dowry symbol of goats (mbuzi) to emphasise trust and emotional connection over wealth.
In the hauntingly melodic chorus, the rising Kenyan songstress, born Bridget Kendi, sings, “Hata walete mbuzi, ni wewe naamini” (“Even if they bring goats, it’s you I believe in”), reframing a cultural norm into a plea for sincerity. The minimalist production—smooth basslines, soft percussion, and Blue’s velvety vocals—creates an intimate soundscape for her lyrical introspection.
