Liam Payne, former One Direction star, dies in tragic hotel incident at 31

Former One Direction member Liam Payne has died at age 31 following a fall from a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina, per cnn.com. Local police confirmed that the incident occurred Wednesday at a property located on Costa Rica Street in the Palermo district.

Prior to the tragic incident, authorities responded to a 911 call regarding a disturbance involving an allegedly intoxicated individual at the hotel. Payne had been spotted in Argentina just days earlier, attending former bandmate Niall Horan’s concert on October 2.

The British singer-songwriter, who recently marked his 31st birthday in the UK, rose to fame as a member of One Direction, one of the most successful boy bands in music history. Following the group’s hiatus in 2015, Payne embarked on a solo career, releasing his debut album LP1 in 2019.

Despite past struggles with substance abuse, Payne had shown signs of recovery, celebrating six months of sobriety in 2023. He had been working on new music, including his latest release “Teardrops” in March 2024, and was planning a comeback tour before health issues forced its postponement.

A devoted father to his son Bear, whom he shared with former partner Cheryl Cole, Payne spoke fondly of fatherhood in a 2023 YouTube video, describing his son as “awesome” and “far more smart than I think I’ll ever be.”
