Nigerian superstar Rema, fresh off his monumental success with the Selena Gomez-featured ‘Calm Down,’ has launched a new era with his first musical release of the year, a collaboration with Shallipopi titled “Benin Boys,” per billboard.com.
Released on Thursday, June 20, the track features heavy drums and stirring background strings, with Rema and Shallipopi trading verses that highlight their wealth and status as two of the world’s hottest young stars. The song is accompanied by a DK-directed music video showcasing the duo in various stylish settings, including a neon-lit nightclub, a private jet, and atop a church.
This release comes shortly after Rema’s double win at the ASCAP London Music Awards on Tuesday, June 18, where he received accolades for song of the year and top streaming song, both for “Calm Down.” The track, a standout from his debut album *Rave & Roses*, reached No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent 58 weeks at the top of the U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart, setting a record.
Rema’s recent works have primarily been collaborations, including tracks with Feid, Ice Spice, and a remix of “Soweto.” “Benin Boys” is Rema’s first release under Interscope Records through its partnership with Mavin Global.
