Anthony Mackie shows support as Jonathan Majors’ trial gets August 3 date

Jonathan Majors, the actor known for his roles in Lovecraft Country and The Harder They Fall, is set to go on trial on August 3 for domestic violence charges.

Anthony Mackie, who co-starred with Majors in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, has commented on the allegations against Majors. In a new interview with Inverse, Mackie affirmed that he won’t buy into the allegations of abuse until there is more evidence.

“We’re a country that was built on ‘everyone is innocent until proven guilty,’” Mackie said in the interview. “That’s one of the staples of this country. Nothing has been proven about this dude. Nothing. So everyone is innocent until proven guilty. That’s all I can say. It’s crazy where we are as a society. But as a country, everyone is innocent until proven guilty”.

Majors was arrested on March 25 in Manhattan on domestic violence allegations and later charged with several accounts of assault and aggravated harassment.

At the centre of the charges is a dispute with a 30-year-old woman, who told police officers that she was assaulted and was taken to the hospital with “minor injuries to her head and neck”.

In April, the alleged victim was granted a temporary order of protection, which means the two parties must not have any direct or third-party contact.

Majors’ case has been ongoing since his arrest in March, and he recently appeared in court for the first time on June 20. During the brief proceedings, a judge set his trial date for August 3.

Majors has reportedly filed a complaint against his accuser, alleging that she has made false statements about him.
