English media personality and controversial commentator, Katie Hopkins, is in the news again; and for no less reason than for stoking fire.
She has reacted to the viral video of what seems to be a ‘Nigerian firefighter’ attempting to quench a raging fire with bowls of water. The fire which engulfed the popular Balogun market in Lagos, despite several attempts by Nigerian firefighters in putting out the raging inferno.
See her tweet below.
The video which was posted on Tuesday by News Central TV got the attention of Katie and she summarily took to Twitter to make what the Nigerian twitter community has described as an offensive and condescending statement.
Lola Shoneyin, convener of both the Ake Books and Arts Festival and the Kaduna Books festival, reacted strongly to Katie Hopkins tweet, provoking a horde of hate tweets directed at the controversial media personality.
But offensive reactions are not alien to Katie Hopkins. She has been known to peddle inflamed opinions about everything, from Palestinian occupation of Israel to gender stereotyping. She takes the resultant attack in stride, riding controversies without missing a beat or untangling a hair strand.
See Lola Shoneyin’s reaction below.
Meanwhile the fire raging at Balogun Market is at the last stages of being extunguished as Nigerian firefighters ( not the man in the viral video, he was just a concerned citizen.) have worked tirelessly to put out the inferno.
