The Headies Award, Nigeria’s equivalent to the Grammys, held last night at the Eko Hotel and Suites. Attended by industry stalwarts, producers, veterans as well as musicians, it was all pomp and pageantry in celebration of those whose works merited recognition in the year of review. Hosted by rapper Reminisce and TV Personality, Nancy Isime, the award ceremony also enjoyed brilliant and tepid performances from a host of artistes including Rema, Styl Plus and Sunny Nneji.
The biggest winners of the night includes Burna Boy who clinched Song of the Year with Ye and Best Collabo with ‘Killing Dem’. Mayorkun won the Best R&B Pop Album of the Year and Hip-Hop World Revelation Award. Falz won Best Rap Album and Best Album of the Year with his ‘Moral Instructions. Newcomer Teni The Entertainer was garlanded with highly coveted Best Female Vocalist, Best Pop Single and Headies Viewers’ Choice Award.
Some of the biggest winners including Burna Boy, Yemi Alade and Seyi Shay were not in attendance. Ditto for some bigwigs like Don Jazzy, Tiwa Savage, Olamide and Fireboy DML, who were in London to attend Wizkid’s O2 Concert which was happening at the same time in faraway London.
