Tems’ ‘Born in the Wild’ dominates Billboard’s US Afrobeats Songs chart

Tracks from Tems’ debut album, Born in the Wild, have made a significant impact on Billboard’s US Afrobeats Songs chart dated June 22, per billboard.com. The album, released under Since ’93/RCA Records, garnered 16,000 equivalent album units in the US for the tracking week of June 7-13, according to Luminate. This success has catapulted the album to No. 5 on the Top R&B Albums chart and No. 56 on the all-genre Billboard 200.

“Love Me Jeje,” has become the highest-charting track from the album, moving from No. 4 to No. 3 on the US Afrobeats Songs chart. The track also recorded the most streams from the album this week, with 3.2 million official US streams, marking a 32% increase from the previous week. Another notable debut from the album is “Free Fall,” featuring J. Cole, which entered the chart at No. 5, leading 11 new entries from Born in the Wild.

Born in the Wild marks the first full-length album from the Nigerian singer-songwriter, who gained international acclaim as a featured artiste on Wizkid’s “Essence.” The remix with Justin Bieber propelled the track to No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2021, making it the first Afrobeats genre song to reach the top 10. Tems continued to rise with features on Drake’s Certified Lover Boy and Future’s “Wait for U,” which debuted at No. 1 on the Hot 100 in May 2022.

Her song “Free Mind,” from the 2020 EP For Broken Ears, also saw renewed popularity, dominating the R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart for 22 weeks in 2022-23 and securing the No. 1 spot on the 2023 year-end recap. 

Tems’ Born in the Wild is a testament to her growing influence in the music industry and her ability to cross genres successfully.
