Superman actor Terence Stamp dies at 87

Terence Stamp, the acclaimed British actor best known for his portrayal of the villainous General Zod in the original Superman films, has passed away at the age of 87, per unilad.com. His family confirmed the news in a statement, saying, “He leaves behind an extraordinary body of work, both as an actor and as a writer that will continue to touch and inspire people for years to come. We ask for privacy at this sad time.”

The cause of death has not yet been confirmed.

A native of London, Stamp’s career spanned over seven decades and included more than 100 film and television credits. He first rose to prominence in 1962 with the title role in Billy Budd, for which he earned a Golden Globe award for Most Promising Newcomer. His performance also earned him an Oscar nomination, launching a long and successful career.

Stamp was a prolific actor throughout his life, appearing in major films like The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, and Murder Mystery. Despite his enduring success, he once recalled a difficult conversation with his father about his acting aspirations. “Now in retrospect he was trying to protect me from something that to him seemed beyond impossible,” Stamp said in a 2013 interview. “And then that gave me the energy.”
