Eurovision Song Contest is the world’s biggest live music event, and was planned to take place from May 12 to 16 May, 2020 before COVID-19 put a stop to it, resulting in the competition cancelled for the first time in its 64-year history.
The 2020 edition was scheduled to take place at the Dutch city of Rotterdam, Netherlands, following its victory at the 2019 contest in Tel Aviv, Israel, with the song ‘Arcade’ performed by Duncan Laurence.
Early this month AfriMusic announced that Lee would be performing his song ‘Undefeated’ during the Eurostream 2020 Semi-finals 2 on May 7, created due to the cancellation of the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest.
The rendition saw multitudes of fans tune in from across the globe, to see the international debut permance of ‘Undefeated’s, which Lee wrote to inspire South Africa’s fighting spirit and resilience.
The song carries an encouraging message of hope during a time of fear and uncertainty brought by coronavirus.

Lee was one of the top 30 finalists in the 2020 AfriMusic Song Contest. Although he did not take the winning title, organisers acknowledged and praised his songwriting skills and musical talent.
When Lee released ‘Undefeated’ during the AfriMusic Song Contest, organisers were adamant it will touch a raw nerve and deliver the much needed message of encouragement and healing during the COVID-19 global crisis.
AfriMusic immediately reached out to Eurostream 2020 to secure a performance slot for ‘Undefeated’, mixed and mastered by Robin Kohl from Jazzworx Studios and produced by Mervin Pillay of Jade Elephant.
Watched acrossed Europe, the US, Australia, Asia and Africa, the music video features messages of love and hope sent by children from different parts of the globe.
For the KwaZulu-Natal born musician, showcasing the song on a digital platform with such an incredible reach, was not only a proud moment for him to cherish, but for AfriMusic and South Africa as a whole.
“We dedicated this message to all of our leaders, heroes in the font-line, our neighbours, our children, parents, teachers, families, friends, to those we have lost, and to those who are still with us,” said Lee, adding: “We see you, we hear you and we love you. A massive thank you to all the children and their parents from around the world who graciously devoted their time and positive energy into this, we send love and light and gratitude to you all.”
