The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has officially unveiled its shortlist for the Class of 2026, featuring a powerhouse line-up of 17 artists spanning the worlds of soul, Britpop, heavy metal, and hip-hop, per ultimateclassicrock.com. Leading the charge is the iconic British-Nigerian chanteuse Sade, who returns to the ballot for a second time alongside a diverse field of legendary talent.
This year’s nominations are dominated by first-time hopefuls. Ten acts have secured their debut spot on the ballot, including Phil Collins (seeking a solo induction to join his previous honour with Genesis), pop-rocker Melissa Etheridge, soul legend Luther Vandross, and the late Jeff Buckley. Global superstars Shakira and P!nk also make their first appearance, alongside hip-hop heavyweights Lauryn Hill and the Wu-Tang Clan.
The list is rounded out by several returning favourites who have yet to clinch the top honour. Oasis and Iron Maiden both receive their third nominations, reflecting a persistent demand for their induction. Meanwhile, Mariah Carey, Billy Idol and the Black Crowes remain in contention after appearing on recent ballots.
To be eligible for the prestigious honour, an artist must have released their first commercial recording at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination.
“This diverse list of talented nominees recognises the ever-evolving faces and sounds of Rock & Roll,” said John Sykes, Chairman of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation.
The final inductees will be determined by an international voting body of more than 1,200 artists, historians, and industry members. Fans can also cast their votes via the Hall of Fame’s official website. The Class of 2026 will be announced in April, with the induction ceremony scheduled to take place this autumn.
