Rolling Stones announce new album ‘Foreign Tongues,’ release single ‘In the Stars’

The Rolling Stones have announced the release of their 28th studio album, Foreign Tongues, scheduled for July 10, according to abcnews.com.

Following weeks of speculation, the band also debuted the record’s lead single, “In the Stars,” across digital platforms on May 5. The 14-track project marks the legendary rock group’s first major release since their 2023 Grammy-winning album, Hackney Diamonds.

Core members Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood collaborated once again with producer Andrew Watt to complete the record. Sessions took place over less than a month at London’s Metropolis Studios. The album reportedly balances the band’s traditional blues-rock aesthetic with new lyrical directions.

The upcoming release features a posthumous appearance by drummer Charlie Watts, using recordings captured shortly before his death in 2021. The album also boasts a high-profile list of guest contributors, including Paul McCartney, Steve Winwood, Robert Smith of The Cure, and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith.

Though “In the Stars” serves as the official lead single, the band had previously soft-launched the opening track, “Rough and Twisted”. That song was initially distributed in April as a limited “white label” vinyl under the pseudonym The Cockroaches before receiving a digital release this week.

Foreign Tongues will be available in multiple physical and digital formats. Pre-orders opened on May 5 through Capitol Records, continuing the band’s late-career resurgence following their successful 2024 stadium tour.

This album represents the band’s second collaboration with producer Andrew Watt, who is widely credited with revitalising the group’s studio sound for a modern audience. By featuring both archival recordings of Charlie Watts and contemporary guest stars, the record bridges the band’s storied history with its current touring line-up.
