Retro Africa Presents ‘HyperFlux’, A William Chechet Exhibition

Retro Africa is excited to present ‘Hyperflux’, a solo contemporary art exhibition featuring Williams Chechet.

This will be Williams Chechet’s first comprehensive solo exhibition and is set to open on Friday 11th December 2020, from 6-9pm.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Raised in Kaduna, Nigeria, Williams believes that art has the power to heal, inspire and bring people together, through art he gives back to his community, inspiring young artists in their pursuit of passion. Drawing references from the likes of Andy Warhol and Jean Michel Basquiat, Williams’ creative process is largely spontaneous. He explores the local, highlighting traditional leaders and various iconic imagery that has shaped Nigeria’s political history.

For this exhibition, we will be displaying works of Williams Chechet with a theme centered on self identity. The series to be featured in this upcoming show, oddly reminiscent of the work of artist Roy Lichtenstein, are a digital collage of features that form a single entity, creating a visual distortion while simultaneously keeping the illusion of coherence in the observed image, one that strongly resonates a sense of character and identity. Additional art installations will be featured across the gallery.
