Rema makes history on Spotify

Rema has achieved unprecedented success on Spotify, claiming the title of the most globally exported artiste in Nigeria on Spotify’s Wrapped list. His collaboration with Selena Gomez, “Calm Down,” made history by becoming the first African artiste to reach one billion streams. This achievement propelled the track to the top 10 chart of the most streamed recordings globally on Spotify, solidifying the Nigerian music sensation’s role as the global ambassador for afrobeats.

Meanwhile, Asake made a strong statement by becoming the most streamed Nigerian artiste in Nigeria, Ghana and Togo. Three of his hits, including “Lonely At The Top” and “Amapiano,” secured spots in the Top 10 most streamed tracks. Grammy nominee Ayra Starr dominated as the most streamed female artist in Nigeria, surpassing industry stalwarts Tiwa Savage and Tems.

In the realm of albums, Davido’s Timeless took the lead as the most streamed album in Nigeria, followed closely by Asake’s Work of Art, with Burna Boy’s Love Damini securing the ninth position. Spotify Wrapped data unveiled a surge in demand for local music in Nigeria, with a remarkable 284% increase in consumption and a notable 150% Year-on-year surge in average streams for female artists.
