Pierce Brosnan & Tom Ellis find their ‘sexy’ 2nd act in new Netflix film

Pierce Brosnan and Tom Ellis are proving that their characters are just as sensual and cool as any they’ve played before in the star-studded cast of the Netflix film The Thursday Murder Club, per metro.co.uk. Brosnan, 72, and Ellis, 47, play a father-son duo, Ron and Jason Ritchie, who are grappling with being past their prime but still having a zest for life. The actors share a similar philosophy, embracing the present moment rather than dwelling on the past or worrying about the future.

“I don’t really think about the future that much,” Brosnan says. “I’m 72 now, and I don’t feel 72.” Ellis cheekily adds, “Reverse those numbers,” to which Brosnan humbly responds with a smile.

The film, adapted from the novel by Richard Osman, celebrates the wisdom and continued vitality of the older generation. Brosnan’s character, along with the other main foursome, is “sassy, sexy, [and] cool,” an aspect Brosnan particularly appreciated in the role.

Both actors adopted cockney accents for their characters. Brosnan admitted to tipping his hat to actor Ray Winstone, while Ellis, known for his role in Lucifer, said he just copied Brosnan and also listened to his friend and co-star Danny Mays. For Brosnan, the accent was also a throwback to his childhood. As a young Irish boy who moved to London, he had to adopt an English accent to avoid being bullied.

Director Chris Columbus praised the UK cast’s professionalism, noting their enduring enthusiasm, which he said was a refreshing change from working with A-listers in the US. The film’s message about appreciating the older generation and the importance of intergenerational connections resonated deeply with Brosnan, who called the film a “celebration of the older generation.”
