“One Battle After Another” & Chalamet triumph at Critics Choice Awards

The 31st annual Critics Choice Awards saw Warner Bros’ thriller One Battle After Another claim Best Picture on Sunday night, according to deadline.com. In a surprising turn, Paul Thomas Anderson secured Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay for the film, cementing its status as a late-season heavyweight.

Timothée Chalamet took home Best Actor for Marty Supreme, famously thanking Kylie Jenner during his speech, while Jessie Buckley earned Best Actress for Hamnet.

Although they missed the top prize, Ryan Coogler’s Sinners and Netflix’s Frankenstein led the tally with four awards each. Sinners dominated the technical and writing categories, including Best Original Screenplay, while Jacob Elordi won Best Supporting Actor for his turn in Frankenstein.

Notably, several high-profile contenders, including Wicked: For Good and Bugonia, left the Barker Hangar empty-handed.

On the small screen, Netflix’s Adolescence was the evening’s biggest winner, sweeping the Limited Series categories with four trophies, including a Best Actor win for Stephen Graham.

* Best Drama: The Pitt (HBO Max) – featuring wins for Noah Wyle and Katherine LaNasa.

* Best Comedy: The Studio (Apple TV+) – with Seth Rogen and Ike Barinholtz taking top acting honours.

* Best Actress (Drama): Rhea Seehorn for Pluribus.

* Best Actress (Comedy): Jean Smart continued her winning streak for Hacks.

Chelsea Handler hosted the ceremony for a fourth year, balancing a tribute to the late Rob Reiner with sharp political barbs. The evening also introduced new categories for Stunt Design and Sound, reflecting the Association’s effort to modernise the awards.
