Miley Cyrus has officially confirmed she is engaged to her boyfriend of four years, Maxx Morando, following a dazzling appearance at the Avatar: Fire and Ash world premiere in Los Angeles, per metro.co.uk
The “Flowers” singer, 33, sparked immediate speculation on Monday after walking the red carpet with a substantial gold diamond ring on her left hand. Looking loved-up beside Morando, 27, she proudly displayed the jewellery whilst posing for photographers.
Following the event, the US star confirmed the happy news to People magazine, though she remained tight-lipped regarding the specifics of the proposal.
“The detail that I can share is that for us, our privacy and us kind of keeping it small has been something that I’ve been astounded that I’ve actually been able to have,” Cyrus said. “I think it’s also being older, being more protective of what I’m open to sharing.”
Speaking at a press conference later attended by Hello!, Cyrus elaborated on what this commitment means to her, describing her relationship with Morando as “about starting again” and rebuilding her life.
“I have the consciousness of a more grown and adult person of what I want this time around,” she explained.
While the red carpet appearance was the public unveiling, reports suggest the couple may have been privately engaged for weeks. Some outlets noted Cyrus wearing the ring since mid-November, and eagle-eyed fans spotted a celebratory post from Maxx’s father on social media. The post, shared around Cyrus’s 33rd birthday, featured a close-up of the ring, a champagne emoji, and the caption “Congratulations.”
The couple was first romantically linked in December 2021, when they were photographed backstage at Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party for NBC. By April 2022, they had gone public with their affection in West Hollywood.
Despite their high profiles, they have kept much of their relationship out of the spotlight. In a 2023 interview with British Vogue, Cyrus revealed they met on a “blind date.”
“Well, it was blind for me and not really for him,” she quipped.
She has also spoken candidly about their six-year age gap. Speaking to Harper’s Bazaar in 2024, she noted their generational differences: “He looks at life really differently than I do. He grew up with a laptop. I had a desktop computer that I shared with my brothers and sisters.”
Morando is the drummer for Liily, a Los Angeles-based alternative rock band formed in 2016. The group, which includes members Dylan Nash, Sam De La Torre, and Charlie Anastasis, famously participated in Miley’s New Year’s Eve special in 2022.
This marks a significant new chapter for Cyrus, who was famously in an on-off relationship with Australian actor Liam Hemsworth for a decade. The pair met on the set of The Last Song in 2009, married in 2018, and finalised their divorce in 2020.
Hemsworth has also moved on; in September 2025, he and model Gabriella Brooks announced their own engagement, with the actor stating he was “excited for this next chapter.”
