Prime Video has announced that Oscar-winning actress Michelle Yeoh will lead the cast of their upcoming limited series, “Blade Runner 2099”, a follow-up to the 2017 movie sequel Blade Runner 2049, per deadline.com.
Details about Yeoh’s role and the show’s plot are being kept under wraps. The series marks the latest expansion of the sci-fi franchise based on Philip K. Dick’s novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?. Production recently commenced overseas after a delay of nearly a year due to the events of 2023. Originally scheduled to shoot in Belfast, the production relocated to Prague following the work stoppage.
Silka Luisa will serve as showrunner and executive producer alongside Ridley Scott, Andrew Kosove, Broderick Johnson, Ben Roberts, David W. Zucker, Clayton Krueger, Tom Spezialy, Richard Sharkey, Michael Green, Cynthia Yorkin, Frank Giustra, Isa Dick Hackett, and Jonathan van Tulleken, who is also directing the first two episodes.
Yeoh, who won the Best Actress Oscar for Everything Everywhere All at Once, is known for her roles in Hong Kong action films and recent projects like Netflix’s The Brothers Sun and The Witcher: Blood Origins. She was recently awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom and will next be seen in Jon M. Chu’s “Wicked” and Alex Kurtzman’s “Star Trek: Section 31”. Yeoh is represented by David Unger at Artist International Group.
