The National Book Foundation has released the longlist for the 2025 National Book Award for Nonfiction, featuring 10 titles chosen from a pool of 652 submissions, according to lithub.com. This year’s judges for Nonfiction are Heather Kathleen Moody Hall, Tiya Miles (Chair), Raj Patel, Cristina Rivera Garza, and Eli Saslow.
The nominated works cover a wide range of compelling subjects. Among the 10 authors are Omar El Akkad for One Day, Everyone Will Have Always Been Against This and Caleb Gayle for Black Moses: A Saga of Ambition and the Fight for a Black State. Other notable titles include Julia Ioffe’s Motherland: A Feminist History of Modern Russia, from Revolution to Autocracy and Fatemeh Jamalpour and Nilo Tabrizy’s For the Sun After Long Nights: The Story of Iran’s Women-Led Uprising.
The finalists across all categories will be revealed on Tuesday, October 7. The winners will be announced at the 76th National Book Awards Ceremony on November 19.
