Oscar-winning director James Cameron has publicly backed the divisive finale of Netflix’s breakout political thriller A House of Dynamite, insisting the story “could not have ended any other way,” per digitalspy.com.
According to the outlet, the Kathryn Bigelow-directed film, which arrived on the platform in October, shows a single missile heading for Chicago and follows the crisis through three inter-cutting viewpoints, including that of US President Thomas Holder (Idris Elba). Viewers expecting closure were instead left with a deliberate cliff-hanger that has fuelled online debate since release.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Cameron – who was married to Bigelow in the late 1980s – said he told the filmmaker: “I utterly defend that ending. It’s really the only possible ending.”
He likened the experience to the classic short story The Lady or the Tiger?, arguing that uncertainty is the point. “From the moment the launch is detected, every outcome sucks,” Cameron said. “The film spends two hours proving there is no good result once these weapons exist.”
Cameron, who previously criticised Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer for skirting the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings, added: “We are reminded that one individual – the president – can decide the fate of the planet. That’s the world voters need to keep in mind.”
A House of Dynamite, also starring Rebecca Ferguson and Gabriel Basso, remains in Netflix’s global top-10 two months after release.
