Idris Elba has joined the cast of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 in the role of Knuckles.
The 48-year-old actor is set to voice the character, a red Echidna who is the guardian of the Master Emerald, according to Deadline.
James Marsden, Ben Schwartz, Tika Sumpter, Natasha Rothwell, Adam Pally, Shemar Moore, and Jim Carrey will return for the second film based on the Sega video game franchise and set for release in April next year. It will tell the tale of the hedgehog and his friends after he defeats Dr Robotnik in the first film and sends him to the mushroom planet.

He has been nominated four times for a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Miniseries or Television Film, winning one, and was nominated five times for a Primetime Emmy Award.
He is one of the few actors who have appeared in both Marvel and DC franchises, with Superman being a DC comic character.
