Gunju’s new album ‘Through Thick and Thin’ chronicles 7 years of resilience

Prince Oluwaseyi Paul Osaro Olagunju, known as Gunju, has released a soul-stirring album, Through Thick and Thin. This project, said a statement, is a culmination of seven years of personal growth and artistic rebirth, and delves into themes of resilience, healing and triumph.

Born into the royal Anilelerin-Olagunju family of Offa, the Nigerian artiste and cultural visionary’s journey has been marked by a blend of cultural heritage, academic excellence and musical innovation. His latest album reflects this rich heritage, offering a unique blend of Southern Nigerian rhythms and the global appeal of House and World Music.

Featuring a 13-piece band, the album combines organic instrumentation with the influences of music legends such as Fela Kuti, James Brown and Isaac Hayes. Tracks like “Soul Rebirth” and “Echoes of Offa” pay homage to his roots while pushing the boundaries of genre. Gunju also cites Barbara Tucker’s dynamism as a driving inspiration behind the project.
