Graham Greene dies at 73

Graham Greene, the acclaimed Indigenous actor best known for his Oscar-nominated role in Dances With Wolves, has died. Pagesix.com reports he was 73.

Greene passed away Monday in a Toronto hospital after a long illness, his agent confirmed. The prolific Canadian First Nations actor was a trailblazer credited with opening doors for Indigenous performers in Hollywood.

Born on the Six Nations Reserve in Ontario, Greene earned widespread fame as Kicking Bird in the 1990 Western opposite Kevin Costner. His powerful performance garnered him an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor.

Over his decades-long career, Greene appeared in numerous films, including Maverick, Die Hard With a Vengeance and The Twilight Saga: New Moon. He also had a diverse range of television roles, most recently appearing in Echo and Tulsa King.

In a 2021 interview, Greene said he aimed for variety in his work, stating, “The diversity of roles is what I like to play. I don’t like to be pigeonholed as one thing.”

He is survived by his wife, Hilary Blackmore, and his daughter, Lilly Lazare-Greene.
