Nigerian artist Emteey Shmurda has released a new single titled “Yanga,” a song centred on a woman whose confidence and self-possession he finds irresistible.
Born Muhammad Jibrin Goma and based in Kaduna State, Emteey Shmurda occupies a distinct space in Northern Nigeria’s emerging music scene through what he describes as Afro-Kalangu, a sound that draws on Arewa musical tradition while reaching towards the wider Afropop and Afrofusion currents shaping the continent.

“Yanga” opens with the artist addressing a woman he regards as royalty, drawn to her bearing and character. The song builds around a chorus that returns to the concept of yanga, a term connoting attitude, self-assurance, and a particular kind of magnetic energy, framing it not as arrogance but as the quality that sustains desire.
“I wanted to sing about a woman who knows her worth and owns it,” Emteey Shmurda said. “That kind of energy is what drew me in, and I just followed that feeling into the music.”
“Yanga” is available now across streaming platforms via ONErpm.
