Hollywood is bracing for a new “king or queen of comedy” as Eric Murphy and Jasmin Lawrence have announced they are expecting their first child, per ew.com.
The couple, who are the eldest children of comedy legends Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence respectively, shared the news via a joint Instagram post on Monday. “Thank you Jesus for the greatest gift,” they wrote, alongside images of Jasmin cradling her baby bump.
The announcement has delighted fans, with many joking about the child’s formidable comedic pedigree. One follower noted: “Having Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence as your grandfathers is life!”
The pair began dating in 2021 and announced their engagement in late 2024. However, they opted for a low-key wedding rather than a star-studded gala. Speaking on The Jennifer Hudson Show last May, Eddie Murphy revealed the couple had already tied the knot in a private ceremony.
“They went off and they got married at the church,” Murphy said. “They just had the two of them and the preacher. I think we’ll have a big party or something later.”
The Coming to America star also quipped about his new status as Martin Lawrence’s in-law: “He doesn’t have to pay for that big wedding now!”
Eddie and Martin have a long history together on screen, having co-starred in the 1992 hit Boomerang and the 1999 cult classic Life. Now, they prepare to embark on their most significant collaboration yet: being grandfathers.
