The 76th Emmy Awards nominations were announced on Wednesday, showcasing a diverse array of talent with several Black actors and creators receiving recognition for their outstanding work in television, per theroot.com.
Leading the pack are Donald Glover for his role in Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Ayo Edebiri for her performance in The Bear, and Idris Elba for his gripping portrayal in Hijack. The beloved sitcom Abbott Elementary continued its award show success, with creator and star Quinta Brunson earning nominations for both acting and writing.
Other notable Black nominees include Maya Rudolph, who received an impressive three nominations for her work on Loot and Saturday Night Live. The critically acclaimed The Bear saw additional recognition for Lionel Boyce in the supporting actor category.
In the drama series categories, Nicole Beharie earned a nod for her powerful performance in The Morning Show, while Michaela Coel received a guest actress nomination for her brief but impactful appearance in Mr. and Mrs. Smith.
Limited series nominees include Aja Naomi King for Lessons in Chemistry, Kali Reis for True Detective: Night Country, and Lamorne Morris for Fargo.
While the nominations celebrate many deserving performers, some notable snubs were observed. David Oyelowo’s portrayal in Lawmen: Bass Reeves was surprisingly overlooked, despite critical acclaim.
The 76th Emmy Awards ceremony is scheduled to air live on September 15, 2024, at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on ABC.
