Sharon Stone and Liam Neeson, alongside Stephen Fry and F. Murray Abraham, have rallied in support of Kevin Spacey, advocating for his return to the entertainment industry, per variety.com. Spacey, who has been absent from Hollywood since multiple accusations of sexual misconduct emerged in 2017, has been thrust back into the spotlight with the airing of the documentary Spacey Unmasked in the UK, now streaming on Max.
The documentary features previously unheard testimonies about Spacey’s alleged misconduct, including a claim that he groped another House of Cards actor on set. Despite these allegations, Stone, Neeson, Fry and Abraham have issued statements to The Telegraph, urging the industry to reintegrate Spacey.
Sharon Stone expressed her admiration for Spacey’s talent, stating, “I can’t wait to see Kevin back at work. He is a genius… aspiring actors wanted and want to be around him.” Stone criticized those blaming Spacey for their personal issues, suggesting that his return would benefit the industry.
Neeson echoed this sentiment, acknowledging his sadness over the accusations but emphasizing Spacey’s character and artistic contributions. “Kevin is a good man and a man of character… our industry needs him and misses him greatly,” Neeson said.
Murray Abraham, who himself faced misconduct allegations leading to his departure from Mythic Quest, defended Spacey, questioning the motives of his accusers and supporting Spacey’s public acceptance of responsibility. “I vouch for him unequivocally… let he who is without sin cast the first stone,” Abraham declared.
Stephen Fry criticised the documentary for its portrayal of Spacey, arguing that it unfairly compared him to Harvey Weinstein and perpetuated harassment. Fry called for a more balanced view, asserting that the allegations did not amount to criminal behaviour.
Spacey has also condemned the documentary. In an interview with journalist Dan Wootton, he lamented his continued exclusion from Hollywood, describing it as a “life sentence” without a clear path to redemption.
Since the initial allegations surfaced during the #MeToo movement, Spacey has faced multiple legal battles. In 2022, a New York jury ruled in his favour against actor Anthony Rapp’s molestation claims. In 2023, a UK court acquitted Spacey of nine sexual assault charges. Despite these legal victories many industry insiders are divided over Spacey’s potential comeback.
