My Chemical Romance pause touring to record new album in 2027

My Chemical Romance will pause live performances next year to focus on writing and recording their fifth studio album, frontman Gerard Way announced during the band’s headline performance at the Hollywood Bowl on October 30, per loudersound.com.

Addressing the crowd, Way explained that the American rock group intends to dedicate 2027 entirely to studio work, suggesting their next live appearances may not take place until 2028. The upcoming record will mark their first full-length album since 2010’s Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys, and their first new release since the 2022 standalone single, “The Foundations Of Decay”.

The announcement comes following a period of active touring. Having originally disbanded in 2013, the group reunited in late 2019 for a performance in Los Angeles, which subsequently led to an extensive worldwide reunion tour in 2022 after pandemic-related delays.

The band will complete their remaining 2026 commitments with a three-date Asian tour this month, performing in Incheon, South Korea on November 7, followed by two nights at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on November 11 and 12.

The news follows recent legal scrutiny for the band after the owners of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders initiated proceedings over the group’s use of lookalike dancers holding cardboard firearms during a recent show in Los Angeles. The band has agreed to pause the use of the costumes while the legal process remains pending.
