Taylor Swift became the first recipient of the Artist Director Honors at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards on September 27 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, where she also premiered the music video for her new single “Patient Zero,” today.com.
The pop icon was presented with the newly created award by actor Dakota Johnson, who praised Swift as a visionary with a relentless drive for perfection.
During her acceptance speech, Swift reflected on her career, noting that she has created roughly 60 music videos, including 18 that she wrote and directed.
The special honor was established by the VMAs to recognise groundbreaking music artists whose behind-the-camera work expands the possibilities of visual storytelling.
Swift thanked her fans and collaborators before closing her remarks by unveiling the “Patient Zero” music video, which stars Johnson and accompanies tracks released days prior from her album “The Life of the Showgirl: The Encore.”
