NAZA, a documentary examining the systems behind the killing of Palestinian civilians in Gaza, has secured theatrical distribution across 56 territories following its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival, per variety.com.
It will subsequently stream for free on the website of British newspaper The Guardian.
Produced by The Guardian alongside James Wilson of JW Films and executive producer Jonathan Glazer, the film won a special jury prize at Venice.
The documentary was shot at night on rooftops in Tel Aviv and builds on investigative reporting published between 2023 and 2025 by The Guardian, alongside Israeli-Palestinian outlets +972 Magazine and Local Call.
The international theatrical rollout begins September 28, with a US release following on September 30 exclusively at the IFC Center in New York City.
Rather than selling to a traditional studio or independent distributor, the release is managed directly by The Guardian and French sales company MK2, supported by an international team of partners. In Italy, I Wonder distribution has scheduled a three-day event release across 500 screens from September 28 to 30.
The film has also been offered to distributors and cinemas in Israel, while The Guardian explores options to screen the work within the occupied Palestinian territories.
Directors Abraham and Szor stated that the project aimed to examine the mechanisms of civilian casualties for which their country is responsible. “While filming members of Israel’s military on rooftops at night in Tel Aviv over the past three years, we found ourselves asking the very questions that were asked by our grandparents’ generation and throughout the 20th century: how does one group of people allow the total dehumanisation of another?” they said.
