Paul Mescal, Joseph Quinn, Barry Keoghan and Harris Dickinson were filmed recreating the Beatles’ Abbey Road album cover as part of Sam Mendes’s authorised four-film Beatles biopic, which Sony Pictures has scheduled for release in April 2028, per variety.com.
Video shared on social media showed the four actors crossing the historic zebra crossing outside Abbey Road Studios in a staged recreation of the famous album image.
Mescal plays Paul McCartney, Quinn portrays George Harrison, Keoghan is Ringo Starr and Dickinson plays John Lennon.
The project, directed by Mendes, will consist of four films, each told from a different band member’s perspective, and marks the first time the Beatles and their estates have granted life rights and the use of their music for a theatrical feature. Sony earlier said principal photography for the series would take a year; Mendes described the undertaking as a “binge-able theatrical experience” during CinemaCon 2025, though Sony has not confirmed whether the films will release simultaneously or across several weeks in April 2028.
Supporting cast announced so far includes Saoirse Ronan as Linda McCartney, James Norton as Brian Epstein, Mia McKenna-Bruce as Maureen Starkey, Anna Sawai as Yoko Ono, Aimee Lou Wood as Pattie Boyd, Harry Lloyd as George Martin, David Morrissey as Jim McCartney, Leanne Best as Mimi Smith, Bobby Schofield as Neil Aspinall, Daniel Hoffmann-Gill as Mal Evans, Arthur Darvill as Derek Taylor and Adam Pally as Allen Klein.
Sony Pictures will distribute the films. The series’ official logline reads: “Each man has his own story, but together they are legendary.”
