ASAP Rocky has praised Rihanna for supporting him through the most difficult periods of his life, including his father’s death, his detention in Sweden and legal disputes, in an excerpt from his forthcoming appearance on The Jason Lee Show, per complex.com.
The full interview airs Wednesday, August 5. In the clip, the Harlem rapper described Rihanna as a strong Black woman who supported him when he was at his lowest.
He cited her presence during his 2019 detention in Sweden and legal disputes involving former associate AAP Relli, noting she had stood by him regardless of whether their bond was platonic or romantic.
Rocky recalled an episode from late 2012, when his debut album Live. Love. ASAP reached number one in January 2013 days after his father died on Christmas. He said he was crying on his hotel bathroom floor in Paris when Rihanna called to congratulate him on the chart success, unaware both were in the city. After he told her he was struggling, she accessed his hotel room. “She walked right in: ‘Yo, you good?’ Talked to me, all this other shit. That really was my friend,” he said.
The remarks come from a teaser that has circulated widely on social media ahead of the broadcast.
Rocky and Rihanna have known each other for more than a decade, with their relationship evolving from friendship to romance.
