Ryan Adams has cancelled his entire European tour, citing health reasons in a brief Instagram post on July 20 in which he stated: “Been sick. Fall tour cancelled,” per faroutmagazine.co.uk.
The cancellation affects all 13 scheduled dates, which had been due to begin in Lisbon on October 10 and continue through Madrid, Barcelona, Granada, Valencia, Geneva, Heidelberg, Berlin, Hamburg, Paris, Bologna, Brescia and Rome.
A follow-up post attributed the decision to “circumstances beyond our control” and apologised to ticket holders. It added that Adams is “doing OK and working hard to finish the new album trilogy” and that new music is forthcoming.
The announcement comes days after Adams posted, and later deleted, a message stating he was selling his belongings. In the post, reported via Reddit, he wrote: “I’m broke and sick and tired but my heart is beating is blasting with hope and riff optimism.”
Adams, 51, returned to touring in 2022 following allegations of abuse made by several women, including musicians Phoebe Bridgers and his ex-wife Mandy Moore, in a 2019 New York Times report. In a since-deleted 2021 Instagram post, he appealed for a “second chance,” writing that he was “months from losing my label, studio and my home.”
Earlier this year, Adams sparked controversy with another deleted social media post in which he branded Australia the “worst country ever to play” following a tour there.
