IDW announces ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Hunger’ one-shot comic for September

IDW Publishing has announced “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Hunger,” a one-shot comic that brings the villain Hun back from the dead in a horror-tinged storyline arriving on September 30, per cbr.com.

The 40-page oversized issue, written by Paul Allor with art by Gavin Smith, sees Hun return as a zombie-like figure seeking to reclaim leadership of the Purple Dragons .

The one-shot is set between issues #22 (Legacy #300) and #23 of the main Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series by Gene Luen Yang . According to IDW’s official solicitation, Hun, who in this continuity is Casey Jones’ abusive father, seeks to reclaim his position as leader of the Purple Dragons . Standing against him are Slash and Ninjara, two characters who recently returned from the Battle Nexus .

Writer Paul Allor described the comic as a “surreal horror story, a brutal gang war, and an intimate character study” set in Mutant Town . He characterised Hun as “more monstrous than the actual monsters, a cold-blooded opportunist who relishes violence and control” .

The one-shot retails for $5.99 and features cover art by Gavin Smith, Dev Madan, Jeffery Cruz, Igor Manti and Isobel Rees . Allor credited IDW and Nickelodeon for allowing him and Smith to “take some very big swings in the structure and narration of this issue” . A zombified Raphael variant cover for TMNT #23 has also been released to celebrate IDW Darks’ second anniversary .
