Claire Connolly wins Robert Rhodes Prize for Irish Literature

Professor Claire Connolly of the University College Cork (UCC) School of English has been awarded the Robert Rhodes Prize for Books on Irish Literature by the American Conference for Irish Studies, writes irishtimes.com.

Connolly received the accolade for her monograph, Irish Romanticism: A Literary History, published by Cambridge University Press, which judges praised as a landmark work that redefines the aesthetic and political agenda of the Irish romantic movement.

The judging panel, chaired by Professor Cóilín Parsons of Georgetown University, commended the book for its tight argumentation and wide-ranging cultural history. UCC President Professor John O’Halloran congratulated Connolly, noting that the award recognises scholarship of the highest calibre and celebrates a work that has reshaped the understanding of Irish literary history.
