Cardi B’s “Am I the Drama?” debuts at No. 1 & goes double platinum on release

Cardi B’s long-awaited sophomore album, Am I the Drama?, has made a blockbuster debut, soaring straight to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart and achieving the rare feat of being certified double platinum in its first week, per npr.org.

The double-platinum status was virtually guaranteed thanks to the album’s generous tracklist, which includes massive, pre-released hits from the past few years, such as the 2021 chart-topper “Up” and her headline-grabbing 2020 Megan Thee Stallion collaboration, “WAP.” The cumulative streams from these colossal tracks meant the album was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) on the day of its release, before quickly climbing to double-platinum status.

Am I the Drama? marks the rapper’s first full-length project since her 2018 debut, Invasion of Privacy. The new album dominated both the sales and streaming charts, signaling a potentially long and healthy run. Strong streaming numbers alone were enough to push the album to the top spot, with 16 of its songs cracking the Hot 100 this week, led by “Safe (feat. Kehlani)” at No. 26.

This triumph knocks last week’s No. 1, Twenty One Pilots’ Breach, from the top spot. Breach, which debuted big on sales, tumbled to No. 12 this week, making way for Cardi B to go 2-for-2 with her albums becoming multiplatinum chart-toppers.

While the KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack continues its dominance on the Hot 100, landing three songs in the top five, including HUNTR/X’s “Golden” at No. 1 for a seventh nonconsecutive week, there were several other notable moves.
