Winner of Quramo Writers Prize 2023, Chizeterem Chijoke

Quramo Writers Prize 2025 narrows field to 3 finalists

The Quramo Writers Prize (QWP) 2025 has announced a shortlist of three, moving a step closer to selecting the winner of the N1m prize and publishing contract.

Following the initial longlist of five, the jury has selected three manuscripts, in no particular order, to proceed in the competition: “Black Bird” by Chioma Jane Okeagu, “Moon Child” by Abiola Junaid and “What Breaks, What Binds” by Hubaidat Oyinkansola Ishola.

These manuscripts were chosen from an initial pool of 34 submissions. The three finalists are now in contention for the coveted prize, a critical creative component of the Quramo Festival of Words (QFest) 2025, where the winner is expected to be announced.

The QWP aims to discover and promote new voices in prose fiction. The previous winner, Dear Zimi by Chizeterem Chijoke, went on to secure a prestigious shortlist position for Quramo Publishers in the $20,000 CANEX Book Factory Prize for Publishing in Africa 2025.

The jury for the prize comprises Mrs. Aduke Gomez (head), Wase Aguele-Konu and Anote Ajeluorou.

QFest 2025 is also set to feature conversations around books on the Nigerian Civil War, including Hubris: A Brief Political History of the Nigerian Army by Dr. Akintunde Akinwumi and My Name Is Okoro by Sam Omatseye, as part of its effort to heal historical pain.
