R. Kelly hospitalised after near-fatal prison overdose

R. Kelly was rushed to Duke University Hospital on June 13, 2025, after suffering a severe overdose of his medications while incarcerated at the Federal Correctional Institute in Butner, N.C.

According to a pagesix.com report, court documents reveal the near-fatal incident occurred just days after the 58-year-old artiste was placed in solitary confinement against his will.

According to filings by Kelly’s attorney, Beau B. Brindley, the “Ignition” singer entered solitary with his anxiety and sleep medications. Prison staff reportedly provided him with additional medication and instructions to take it on June 12. The following morning, Kelly awoke feeling faint, dizzy, and lost consciousness, collapsing in his cell before being transported to the hospital.

“He was administered an overdose quantity of his medications that threatened his life,” Brindley stated in court documents, alleging that Bureau of Prisons officials jeopardized Kelly’s life with an “amount of medication that significantly exceeded a safe dose.” The attorney further claimed this incident came after he filed a motion exposing a supposed “plot to kill him” by the Bureau of Prisons.

Kelly was treated for two days at Duke University Hospital. This developing story continues to unfold as legal teams and prison officials remain tight-lipped on the specifics.
