Apple Music & Universal Music Group launch innovative Sound Therapy collection

Apple Music and Universal Music Group (UMG) have unveiled Sound Therapy, a groundbreaking audio wellness collection that combines popular music with specialized sound technologies designed to improve listeners’ mental states, per webwire.com.

The innovative collaboration transforms familiar tracks from UMG’s extensive artiste roster into wellness tools by subtly incorporating specific auditory beats and coloured noise frequencies. The collection is backed by cognitive science research and aims to help Apple Music subscribers focus better, relax more deeply, and achieve improved sleep quality.

“Elevating music’s role in health and wellbeing has been a strategic priority for UMG,” said Michael Nash, UMG’s Executive Vice President and Chief Digital Officer. “Given Apple’s leadership at the intersection of health and technology, Sound Therapy represents an important validation of our innovative, science-led Sollos initiative.”

The collection features three specialised categories:

1. Focus – Enhanced with gamma auditory beats and white noise to improve concentration and cognitive performance

2. Relax – Infused with theta auditory beats to promote relaxation and stress reduction

3. Sleep – Incorporates delta auditory beats and pink noise (similar to rainfall or ocean waves) to encourage deeper sleep

Sound Therapy showcases reimagined, extended, and instrumental versions of tracks from popular artists including Imagine Dragons, Katy Perry, Kacey Musgraves, Ludovico Einaudi, AURORA, Jhené Aiko, Chelsea Cutler, and Jeremy Zucker.

The project was developed by Sollos, UMG’s music-wellness venture based in London, bringing together audio engineers, producers, and scientists to create what the companies describe as a “premium listening experience” that preserves the artists’ original vision while adding wellness benefits.

Rachel Newman, Apple Music’s co-head, emphasized the natural extension of the service’s existing wellness offerings: “We’ve seen incredible engagement around our personalized mood playlists and the new Apple Music Chill radio station. Now, with Sound Therapy, we’re bringing a new listening experience that’s grounded in artistry, shaped by innovation, and designed to support wellness.”

The launch follows Apple’s ongoing commitment to health and wellness through products like Apple Watch, HealthKit, and Apple Fitness+. Both companies have committed to further research into music’s impact on wellbeing.

Sound Therapy is available exclusively on Apple Music starting today.
